Poland’s WIG30 index closed 0.31% higher on Monday, with gains led by the basic materials and information technology sectors. The Warsaw benchmark ended the session at 3,612.80 points, reflecting modest but broad-based buying interest.
Advancing stocks outnumbered decliners 251 to 279, with 112 issues unchanged. The trading volume underscored a cautious tone, as investors balanced sector-specific strength against broader macro uncertainty.
Among the top performers, copper producer KGHM Polska Miedz SA led with a 4.69% gain, adding 16.05 points to finish at 358.40. Asseco Poland SA rose 2.66% to 235.60, while telecom group Cyfrowy Polsat SA advanced 2.40% to 16.20. On the downside, Synektik led decliners with a 4.95% drop to 338.00, followed by discount retailer Pepco Group NV, which fell 1.91% to 42.07, and Erste Bank Polska SA, which slipped 1.46% to 716.00.
Commodity markets showed divergent moves. Crude oil futures for October delivery fell 2.77% to $84.65 per barrel, while Brent crude for November delivery declined 2.41% to $90.44. In contrast, December gold futures rose 1.05% to $4,729.89 per troy ounce, extending recent strength in the precious metal.
The Polish zloty held steady against major currencies. The EUR/PLN exchange rate was virtually unchanged at 4.31, while USD/PLN remained flat at 3.69. The U.S. Dollar Index futures edged up 0.15% to 98.88, reflecting modest dollar strength in global markets.
