Kioxia Holdings will invest more than 1 trillion yen ($6.27 billion) to construct a new chip manufacturing plant in northern Japan, according to a report by the Nikkei on Thursday.
The Japanese memory chip manufacturer, known for its NAND flash memory products, plans to expand production capacity at its existing facility in the region. The investment exceeds 1 trillion yen, translating to approximately $6.27 billion at current exchange rates, the report stated, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The new production line will support Kioxia’s long-term strategy to meet rising global demand for memory chips, particularly in data center and AI applications. Construction timelines and additional operational details were not disclosed in the report. Kioxia, which operates under Kioxia Holdings Corp., remains a key player in the semiconductor industry amid ongoing supply chain and geopolitical challenges affecting the sector.
