Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 index fell 0.18% to close at 9,053.80 on Wednesday, taking back some of its earlier gains as declines in the IT, real estate investment trust (A-REIT), and financial sectors dominated trading. The index dropped 16.20 points, extending modest losses from the previous session.
Market breadth reflected the uneven performance, with 626 stocks declining against 441 advances and 381 unchanged. S&P/ASX 200 VIX, a measure of implied volatility, fell 1.99% to 10.68, indicating subdued near-term risk expectations despite the index's modest retreat.
