Methode Electronics Shares Plunge 17% After Earnings Miss on Cash Flow, Guidance

Methode Electronics shares tumbled as much as 17% in premarket trading Wednesday after the custom-engineered solutions manufacturer reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 results and issued full-year guidance that failed to offset investor concerns over profitability and cash generation.

The company reported an adjusted loss of $0.22 per share after the close on September 2, which was narrower than the $0.24 per-share loss analysts had expected. Revenue surged 10.4% to $265.4 million, well above the $231.57 million consensus estimate. However, the quarterly net loss widened to $11.4 million from $10.3 million in the year-ago period, and adjusted EBITDA of $13.7 million came in slightly below expectations.

The most concerning metric was free cash flow, which turned negative at -$10.9 million — a sharp reversal that underscored ongoing cash conversion challenges despite strong top-line growth.

On a full-year basis, Methode guided for revenue of $1.025 billion to $1.075 billion, a midpoint of $1.05 billion that matched analyst expectations precisely. The guidance offered no upside surprise following the stock’s multi-month rally, leaving investors with little reason to reassess their outlook.

The selloff was entirely company-specific. The broader market was relatively calm, with the S&P 500 essentially unchanged, the Dow Jones edging up 0.2%, and the Nasdaq slipping 0.3%.

Methode Electronics, which manufactures custom-engineered components for industries including automotive, industrial, and communications, will see whether its revenue trajectory can eventually translate into sustainable earnings and positive cash generation in subsequent quarters.
