Sun Communities Inc. (NYSE: SUI) named Robert A. "Bob" Garechana as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective Sept. 8, 2026. The appointment follows the transition of Fernando Castro-Caratini, who will move into an advisory role with the real estate investment trust.
Garechana brings extensive finance and capital markets experience to the role, having served as CFO of Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR) from September 2018 to 2025. Prior to that, he held the position of Treasurer at Equity Residential from 2008 to 2018 and joined the company in 2004. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer at Equity Residential, a position he assumed in 2025.
Sun Communities, which owns, operates, or has an interest in 455 developed properties and approximately 156,130 developed sites across the United States and Canada as of June 30, 2026, said Garechana’s appointment aligns with its strategic priorities, including disciplined capital allocation and operational optimization.
Charles Young, Sun Communities’ Chief Executive Officer, stated that Garechana’s background would support ongoing financial system improvements and investment initiatives. Garechana holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin and previously served on the Nareit CFO Council and the Board of Directors for Upwardly Global, including as Treasurer on its Operating Committee.
