MicroStrategy said on Monday it purchased 4,603 bitcoin for $369.7 million, using proceeds from a share sale that generated $602.8 million in net proceeds.
The average purchase price was $80,318 per coin, inclusive of fees and expenses, according to a regulatory filing dated August 30. The bitcoin were acquired between August 24 and August 30 as part of the company’s ongoing strategy to expand its cryptocurrency reserves.
As of August 30, MicroStrategy held a total of 845,050 bitcoin, with an aggregate cost of $63.73 billion. The overall average purchase price for the entire portfolio stood at $75,412 per coin. The company did not disclose any sales of bitcoin during the period.
MicroStrategy sold 4,531,421 shares of its Class A common stock in an at-the-market offering program during the same period, raising $602.8 million in net proceeds. Of those proceeds, $369.7 million was allocated to the bitcoin purchase, while $151.8 million was used to repurchase 1,557,177 shares of its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock under the Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program.
An additional $50.7 million was used to fund dividends on the preferred stock, and $30.0 million was added to the company’s USD cash liquidity account. MicroStrategy’s USD reserve balance stood at $5.10 billion, designated to support dividend payments and debt interest obligations, while its USD cash balance was $1.61 billion.
The company’s at-the-market offering programs for preferred stock—STRF, STRC, STRK, and STRD—remained unused during the period, leaving approximately $25.2 billion in remaining capacity. MicroStrategy also had $19.09 billion available for issuance under its common stock program. Separate repurchase programs totaling $1.36 billion remained largely unused, with $364.8 million available under the Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program and $1.0 billion under a separate common stock repurchase initiative.
