Mexico's S&P/BMV IPC closed 0.55% higher on Thursday, extending gains as industrials, consumer goods and services, and consumer staples led advances. The index's performance reflected broad-based but selective buying interest across the broader market.
The benchmark gauge saw falling stocks outnumber advancing ones by 142 to 108, with 15 issues ending unchanged. Industriales Penoles led gains, rising 3.07% to 889.20, followed by Qualitas Controladora at 2.34% to 152.42 and Regional SAB de CV at 2.02% to 136.43.
On the downside, Controladora Vuela Compania de Aviacion fell 3.53% to 11.74, Grupo Carso declined 3.13% to 135.14, and Grupo Financiero Inbursa dropped 1.65% to 43.50. The mixed performance underscored sector-specific dynamics, with airlines and diversified conglomerates lagging despite the broader index's advance.
Commodities and currencies showed modest strength. Gold futures for December delivery rose 0.66% to $4,575.15 per troy ounce, while October crude oil futures climbed 2.16% to $86.21 per barrel. The Brent October contract, however, edged down 0.02% to $93.19. The U.S. dollar was little changed against the Mexican peso, trading at 16.96, while the euro held steady at 19.80. The U.S. Dollar Index futures were up 0.05% at 98.79.
