Exascale Labs Holdings and EnergyBank have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to explore the development of grid-independent AI computing infrastructure powered by floating offshore wind energy and long-duration storage.
The initial pilot project will integrate Exascale’s modular data center technology with EnergyBank’s energy storage systems, leveraging the Zephyros-One floating offshore wind turbine operated by Sustainable Energy Norway. The system is designed to deliver up to 800 kW of computing capacity, with funding provided by EnergyBank through private investment and potential public funding opportunities.
Beyond the pilot, the companies aim to develop a reference architecture for future deployments targeting up to 10 MW of firm computing capacity per turbine. The proposed system bypasses conventional grid connections by integrating power generation, storage, cooling, and computing into a single, deployable unit, with the goal of reducing deployment times for AI-ready data centers.
Exascale operates a GPU computing platform offering reserved and on-demand access to high-performance computing capacity, while EnergyBank specializes in long-duration energy storage for floating offshore wind applications. The MoU is non-binding and does not legally obligate either party to proceed, with projects contingent on technical evaluation, definitive agreements, financing, and regulatory approvals.
Exascale CEO Hoansoo Lee stated that the growth of AI infrastructure is constrained not by advanced chip availability but by the ability to secure and supply energy at the required scale and within commercially viable timelines.
