The Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZKB) has entered into a special partnership with the Swiss Science Center Technorama in Winterthur. The bank is participating in the expansion project "Technorama 2050" with a donation and has also signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement. The financial details of the engagement are not disclosed, but the bank states that it will make a "substantial" contribution to the project. The funds are expected to flow within the next three years, provided the overall financing is secured and construction begins.
The project involves a comprehensive renovation, modernization, and expansion of the science center, which is over 40 years old. Planned improvements include a new addition, a central piazza, additional space, and modernization of the building and technical infrastructure. The total budget for the project is approximately 60 million Swiss francs.
According to Technorama, nearly 80 percent of the construction funds have already been secured through public funds, foundations, private individuals, companies, and own resources. In the 2025 financial report, commitments for three-quarters of the financing were mentioned.
The public sector is also involved. The city of Winterthur has requested a contribution of four million Swiss francs in June, and the Canton of Zurich has also pledged financial support.
Construction is expected to take place between 2028 and 2030. Technorama attracts over 360,000 visitors annually and features more than 500 experimental stations.
"With Technorama, we are connecting to central aspects of our mandate: education, innovation, social inclusion, and the strengthening of the economic and living environment in Zurich," says Jörg Müller-Ganz, President of the Bank Board of the ZKB.
This partnership is part of the ZKB's broad sponsorship engagement in the Canton of Zurich. In June, the bank also extended its main partnership with the Schauspielhaus Zürich for another three years, up to 2029.
