Hyliion Holdings revenue tops estimates, earnings match forecasts

Hyliion Holdings Corp. on Thursday posted first-quarter earnings that met Wall Street forecasts, while revenue surpassed estimates as demand for its hydrogen-powered vehicle technology remained resilient.

The company, which focuses on zero-emission transportation solutions, reported a net loss of $22.1 million, or 10 cents per share, matching the average analyst estimate compiled by Refinitiv. Revenue totaled $1.2 million, topping the $950,000 forecast by analysts.

Hyliion attributed the revenue beat to ongoing customer interest in its Hypertruck ERX range-extender technology, designed for medium- and heavy-duty trucks. The company has been positioning itself as a leader in the transition to cleaner commercial fleets, despite broader economic headwinds affecting capital expenditures in the sector.

Management reaffirmed its guidance for 2024, projecting revenue growth as it scales production and secures additional partnerships. Analysts noted that while the company continues to operate at a loss, the revenue trajectory suggests potential for improved margins as volume increases.

Shares of Hyliion were little changed in after-hours trading following the release, reflecting investor focus on long-term prospects rather than short-term financial performance.

The company’s next major milestone will be the commercial deployment of its hydrogen-powered trucks, which is expected to begin later this year pending regulatory approvals and infrastructure readiness.
