Chinese consumer prices accelerated in August, rising 0.8% from a year earlier after climbing just 0.5% in July, according to data that matched expert expectations.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.4%, outpacing the 0.3% advance forecast by analysts. In July, prices had dropped 0.1% month-on-month.

Food prices fell 1.4% year-on-year in August, continuing a downward trend, while prices for other goods rose 1.2% compared with the same period last year.
