Albertsons Companies Inc. (NYSE: ACI) announced Thursday that it has appointed Meg Whitman as executive chair of its board, a newly created role that expands the board’s size from 10 to 11 members.
With the appointment, Kim Fennebresque will transition from chair to lead independent director. Whitman will serve as an operations and strategic advisor to Chief Executive Susan Morris and her senior team, focusing on strategy and execution initiatives that include artificial intelligence technologies and customer experience across the grocer’s physical and digital channels.
Whitman spent a decade as president and CEO of eBay Inc. from 1998 to 2008, overseeing annual revenue growth from $30 million to more than $8 billion. She then led Hewlett-Packard Co. from 2011 to 2018. From July 2022 until November 2024, she served as U.S. Ambassador to Kenya. She currently sits on the boards of CoreWeave Inc., Motive Technologies and Fervo Energy, and previously held seats at Procter & Gamble Co. and General Motors Co. Whitman holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and an A.B. in economics from Princeton University.
Susan Morris said in a statement: “Meg has a remarkable track record of helping companies strengthen execution, accelerate growth and create long-term value.”
As of June 20, 2026, Albertsons operated 2,240 retail stores across 35 states and the District of Columbia. Its network included 1,708 in-store pharmacies, 408 fuel centers, 22 distribution centers and 19 manufacturing facilities.
