Fate Therapeutics Highlights FT819 Lupus Trial Progress in Phase 1 Study

Fate Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company advancing induced pluripotent stem cell-derived therapies, presented preliminary findings from its Phase 1 clinical trial of FT819 at the Congress of Clinical Rheumatology West meeting in Huntington Beach, California. The trial, evaluating FT819 combined with fludarabine-free conditioning chemotherapy, reported data from 16 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) as of May 2026. Thirteen patients completed at least one month of follow-up, with no dose-limiting toxicities observed. Notably, no cases of Grade 3 or greater cytokine release syndrome were recorded, and other serious toxicities—such as immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome, graft-versus-host disease, or hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis—were absent. Early improvements were noted in disease activity, as measured by the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index, and patient-reported outcomes, including reductions in fatigue. In patients with active lupus nephritis, urine protein-to-creatinine ratios decreased by an average of 1.15 g/g at six months in Regimen A. A subset of patients treated with FT819 plus bendamustine showed a greater reduction of 1.8 g/g, underscoring potential efficacy in nephritis management. The presentation took place on September 18, 2026, during the ongoing Phase 1 trial, marking a key milestone in the company’s autoimmune disease immunotherapy pipeline.
