Cairdac SA has appointed Raymond W. Cohen as chairman of its board of directors, the French company said.
Cohen brings more than 40 years of experience in the medical technology industry. He previously served as chief executive of Axonics Inc., which was acquired by Boston Scientific in late 2024 for $3.7 billion. Axonics generated over $1.2 billion in revenue during the four years following its commercial launch, according to the company.
In 2025, Cohen led the sale of SoniVie Ltd. for $600 million, followed by the sale of Nalu Medical for $533 million later that year. Kestra Medical Technologies, also publicly traded on NASDAQ, was founded by Cohen in 2018 after it went public.
Cairdac, based in Antony, France, is developing a leadless cardiac pacemaker known as the Autonomous Leadless Pacing System. The device uses a piezoelectric harvester to convert mechanical energy from heartbeats into electricity, storing it in a rechargeable battery. The company stated the technology is designed to support multi-chamber pacing, remote monitoring, diagnostics, and inter-device communication.
Global pacemaker market size is estimated at $5.5 billion. Cairdac reported preclinical results in a 2026 abstract presented at Europace. The company is preparing for its first-in-human study and targeting a CE mark in Europe before conducting a U.S. pivotal study. The device remains investigational and is not available for sale.
Cairdac's investors include Mérieux Equity Partners, Supernova Invest, Bpifrance, Sham Innovation Santé, Crédit Agricole Touraine et Poitou, Star51, Andera Partners, and Sherpa Capital Partners.
