Xos Inc said on Monday it secured a $1.2 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to supply mobile electric vehicle charging systems. The deal covers the delivery of 12 units designed for operational use, supporting the Air Force's electrification and sustainability initiatives.
The contract, awarded under the Air Force's Small Business Innovation Research program, reflects growing demand for mobile charging solutions in military logistics and fleet operations. Xos, which specializes in electric trucks and energy infrastructure, stated the systems will enhance operational flexibility by enabling rapid deployment of charging capabilities in remote or austere environments.
Financial terms were not disclosed beyond the $1.2 million figure provided by the company. The contract is expected to be fulfilled within 12 months, with delivery scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year. Xos did not specify whether additional orders are anticipated under the program.
The company's shares were not immediately active in after-hours trading following the announcement. Xos has previously supplied electric vehicles and charging solutions to commercial and government customers, including municipal and utility fleets.
The Air Force has emphasized electrification as part of its broader climate strategy, aiming to reduce operational carbon emissions while maintaining mission readiness. Mobile charging systems are seen as critical to supporting hybrid and fully electric vehicle adoption across military operations.
