Vista Gold Corp. on Monday appointed Gavin Ferguson as managing director of its Australian operations, a move aimed at accelerating development of the Mt Todd gold project in the Northern Territory.
Ferguson, who previously served as managing director of Evolution Mining’s Mt Carlton operation, brings more than 30 years of experience in gold mining and project leadership to the role. His appointment follows Vista Gold’s recent strategic review and capital raising efforts to fund the Mt Todd project, one of Australia’s largest undeveloped gold deposits.
The Mt Todd project, located approximately 270 kilometers southwest of Darwin, is estimated to contain 5.5 million ounces of gold reserves. Vista Gold has secured key permits and environmental approvals, with ongoing work focused on optimizing project economics and securing additional financing. Ferguson’s appointment is expected to strengthen the company’s operational and technical capabilities as it advances toward production.
Vista Gold shares were unchanged in early trading on Monday. The company has not provided a timeline for Ferguson’s transition or further updates on the Mt Todd project timeline.
