U.S. stock index futures showed cautious gains on Tuesday as investors positioned ahead of Nvidia's second-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings release after Wednesday's close and key Federal Reserve communications later in the week.
S&P 500 futures rose 0.1% to 7,680.25 points at 06:08 GMT, following a 0.3% decline in the regular session to close at 7,652.86. Nasdaq 100 futures advanced 0.5% to 29,237, while Dow Jones futures remained largely flat at 53,492. Semiconductor stocks weighed on sentiment, with Nvidia down 2.9% in regular trading. Micron Technology and Broadcom also declined.
Treasury yields held near multi-week highs, with the 10-year yield at 4.70% and the 30-year at 5.23%. The elevated yields reflected ongoing concerns over the Federal Reserve's policy trajectory. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated the department may utilize its nearly $1 trillion Treasury General Account to expand bond buyback operations, with plans to double quarterly purchases of 10- to 30-year securities to $4 billion per operation starting September 10.
Oil prices fell below $92 per barrel on Tuesday, extending a more than 2% decline from Monday. The retreat followed geopolitical developments involving U.S. sanctions warnings against entities trading with Iran. Treasury's Bessent reiterated that countries conducting business with Tehran could face secondary sanctions, framing the measures as part of an "economic D-Day" against Iran.
Investors will focus on additional macroeconomic signals this week, including the release of July personal consumption expenditures inflation data. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is scheduled to speak on Friday, coinciding with the start of the annual Jackson Hole symposium on Thursday.
