The U.S. Department of State has approved the potential $4.5 billion sale of up to four KC-46A refueling tankers to Qatar, the agency announced.
The proposed deal includes spare engines, radar systems, and other components, with Boeing serving as the primary contractor alongside RTX Corp. and Northrop Grumman Corp. The State Department said the sale aligns with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives.
The approval follows standard procedures under the U.S. arms export framework. If finalized, the transaction would mark a significant expansion of Qatar’s aerial refueling capabilities, supporting its defense partnerships with the United States. The announcement was made on Thursday, with no immediate details provided on the timeline for contract execution.
