Spain's benchmark IBEX 35 index declined 0.15% at Thursday's close, as losses in consumer goods and telecoms offset gains in energy and banking shares.
The index ended the session with 94 advancers against 93 decliners, while 25 stocks were unchanged. The broader market breadth reflected a mixed performance across sectors, with consumer goods, telecoms and IT, and building and construction among the weakest performers.
Energy group Repsol led the gains, rising 2.66% to 28.14 euros per share, marking a record closing price. The advance followed a 2.67% gain in December gold futures to $4,575.96 per troy ounce and a 2.67% increase in October crude oil futures to $86.64 per barrel. Caixabank added 1.54% to 12.90 euros, while real estate investment trust Merlin Properties rose 1.15% to 14.07 euros.
On the downside, steelmaker Acerinox fell 2.74% to 17.01 euros, construction firm Sacyr declined 2.28% to 4.37 euros, and airline group IAG dropped 1.81% to 4.89 euros. The mixed performance underscored the divergence between cyclical and defensive sectors during the session.
