U.K. equities extended gains at the close of trade on Tuesday, with the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rising 0.33% to set a new all-time high in London.
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 1,024 to 666, while 562 stocks were unchanged. The gains were led by the automobiles & parts, household goods & home construction, and pharmaceuticals & biotechnology sectors.
Top performers included Vistry Group PLC, which surged 16.31% to close at 312.40, and Melrose Industries PLC, which added 10.43% to end at 510.20. AstraZeneca PLC rose 3.02% to 12,476.00 in late trade.
Decliners were led by Standard Chartered PLC, which fell 2.51% to 2,140.00, followed by Diageo PLC, down 2.01% at 1,735.50, and WPP PLC, which slipped 1.93% to 392.20.
Commodities showed mixed performance, with gold futures up 0.08% to $4,701.39 per troy ounce. Crude oil prices declined, with October WTI futures down 3.40% to $82.12 per barrel and November Brent falling 3.48% to $87.39 per barrel.
The British pound held steady against the U.S. dollar at 1.36, while the euro was little changed at 0.86 versus the pound. The U.S. Dollar Index futures slipped 0.04% to 98.89.
