U.K. equities advanced at Tuesday’s close, with the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rising 0.33% to set a fresh record in London. Gains were broad-based but led by strength in the Automobiles & Parts, Household Goods & Home Construction and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors.
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 1,024 to 666 on the London Stock Exchange, with 562 stocks unchanged. The index’s advance extended its rally into a new session, capping a day of steady buying interest.
Among individual movers, Vistry Group PLC led gains with a 16.31% surge to 312.40, while Melrose Industries PLC added 10.43% to finish at 510.20. AstraZeneca PLC rose 3.02% to 12,476.00. On the downside, Standard Chartered PLC fell 2.51% to 2,140.00, Diageo PLC declined 2.01% to 1,735.50 and WPP PLC shed 1.93% to 392.20.
Commodities showed mixed performance. December gold futures edged 0.07% higher to $4,700.99 per troy ounce, while October U.S. crude oil futures dropped 3.41% to $82.11 per barrel. The November Brent crude contract fell 3.48% to $87.39 per barrel.
Foreign exchange markets were little changed. The GBP/USD pair held steady at 1.36, while EUR/GBP was flat at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures fell 0.04% to 98.89.
