TELA Bio Inc. announced plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 20% and cut annual operating expenses by $17 million as part of a broader cost-reduction strategy.
The Malvern, Pennsylvania-based medical technology company said the measures are designed to extend its cash runway into 2028 while preserving investments in core growth priorities and product innovation. The initiative includes a workforce reduction of about 20%, alongside streamlining external resources.
The company expects to incur a restructuring charge of roughly $1.5 million in the third quarter of 2026, primarily related to severance and employee-related costs. Roberto Cuca, who served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for five years, will step down effective immediately. Heather Getz, Chief Executive Officer, noted that Cuca "has been instrumental in helping us scale operations in support of the Company's long-term growth aspirations."
TELA Bio, a commercial-stage medical technology firm focused on soft-tissue reconstruction solutions, said the cost-cutting measures aim to reduce operating expenses by 18%. The company plans to discuss the initiative in further detail during an earnings call scheduled for early November, covering the third quarter of 2026.
