Condor chief Peter Gerber told an aviation conference in Frankfurt that passengers should prepare for continued ticket‑price increases. He cited ongoing tension in the Persian Gulf as a reason kerosene prices are unlikely to fall in the coming year, keeping fuel costs high for airlines.
Gerber urged the German government to reduce the country’s high location costs for air transport. He advocated abolishing the air‑traffic tax altogether, citing Sweden’s model as a template that could boost flight volumes and generate higher state revenues. He noted that the recent reduction in the tax was only a first step.
The CEO also supported a proposal from Deutsche Flugsicherung for the state to fund one‑quarter of air‑traffic‑control fees as a baseline financing measure.
Separately, Hessen state chancellor Benedikt Kuhn announced that no further landing rights would be granted to airlines from the United Arab Emirates at German airports. He argued that additional flights via Doha or Dubai would weaken domestic hub traffic.
The statements come as the European airline sector grapples with volatile fuel prices and regulatory pressures, raising concerns about fare affordability for travelers.
