Taiwan stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Taiwan Weighted index up 0.51% as gains in oil, gas and electricity, plastic and transport shares offset broader declines. The index finished at 21,845.32, according to exchange data.
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by a margin of 610 to 391, with 116 stocks unchanged. The gains were concentrated in the energy and transport sectors, which provided support to the broader market.
Among individual movers, Msscorps Co Ltd led gainers with a 10% rise to 462.00, while First Steamship Co Ltd and Shih Wei Navigation Co Ltd each added nearly 10% to close at 7.39 and 18.75, respectively. On the downside, Holy Stone Enterprise Co Ltd fell 10% to 639.00, Syntec Technology Co Ltd dropped 9.96% to 2,215.00 and Lintes Technology Co Ltd declined 8.94% to 448.00.
Commodities showed mixed performance, with October crude oil futures down 0.79% to $86.14 per barrel and Brent crude for October delivery falling 0.61% to $93.21. December gold futures, however, rose 0.84% to $4,609.76 per troy ounce. The U.S. dollar index futures were down 0.19% at 98.63, while the USD/TWD exchange rate held steady at 31.86.
