Sunshine Biopharma Inc. said its Canadian subsidiary Nora Pharma Inc. received approval to market atenolol tablets in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg strengths for the Canadian market.
The generic beta-blocker is indicated for hypertension, angina pectoris and post-myocardial infarction care, according to the company. Sunshine Biopharma plans to begin shipments to pharmacies by the end of 2026 through its wholly-owned Canadian unit.
The approval follows the company’s existing portfolio of 60 prescription generics already commercialized in Canada. Management also outlined plans to introduce roughly 12 additional products in the Canadian market for the remainder of 2026.
Sunshine Biopharma develops both generic and proprietary therapies. Its pipeline includes K1.1, an mRNA therapy for liver cancer, and a PLpro protease inhibitor targeting SARS coronavirus infections.
Dr. Steve Slilaty, chief executive officer, said the atenolol approval reinforces the company’s generic platform and commitment to expanding access to affordable, reliable medicines.
