Russian equities closed higher on Tuesday, with the MOEX Russia Index advancing 2.70% to 3,120.40 at the close of trade in Moscow. Advancing issues outnumbered decliners 177 to 67, with 11 stocks unchanged.
Gains were concentrated in the oil and gas, power and mining sectors, offsetting losses in metals and utilities. The Russian Volatility Index, which tracks implied volatility for MOEX Russia Index options, fell 2.41% to 46.08.
The U.S. dollar-ruble exchange rate held steady at 83.70, while the euro-ruble rate was unchanged at 97.72.
Among the top gainers, TATNEFT n.a. V.D. Shashin led with a 3.31% rise to 528.20, followed by PIK SHb PJSC at 584.70, up 3.30%. Unipro PJSC climbed 5.62% to 0.98. In contrast, Novolipetsk Steel declined 2.36% to 66.20, while Polyus PJSC fell 1.54% to 1,109.40. ROSSETI PJSC edged down 1.36% to 0.05.
Commodity markets showed mixed signals. Gold futures for December delivery rose 0.39% to $4,715.90 per troy ounce, while October crude oil futures dropped 4.59% to $81.11 per barrel. The Brent crude contract for November delivery, however, gained 0.37% to $86.07 per barrel.
