Russia plans to deliver 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China in 2026, the country’s deputy prime minister said on Thursday.
Alexander Novak told reporters the volume would be routed through the existing Power of Siberia pipeline and via Kazakhstan, as part of a broader energy cooperation agreement between Moscow and Beijing.
The announcement follows talks between Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) on a second pipeline project originally referred to as Power of Siberia-2 but now designated Power of Baikal. The intergovernmental commission overseeing the initiative is scheduled to meet on Friday to advance discussions.
The Power of Siberia pipeline, operational since 2019, currently supplies gas from Russia’s Far East to northern China. The proposed Power of Baikal link would further expand export capacity to meet rising demand in China, the world’s largest energy consumer.
