Rio2 Ltd. provided an update on its second-quarter 2024 operations during an earnings call, highlighting progress in the ramp-up phase of its Fenix Gold project in northern Chile.
The company reported that construction activities at the Fenix site have reached key milestones, with commissioning activities underway as part of the final stages of development. Rio2 emphasized that the project remains on track to achieve commercial production by the end of 2024, subject to regulatory approvals and operational readiness.
During the call, management outlined production targets for the initial phase, projecting first gold pours in the coming months. Rio2 also discussed ongoing efforts to secure financing and finalize offtake agreements to support the project’s long-term viability. The company reiterated its commitment to sustainable mining practices, including water management and community engagement initiatives in the Atacama region.
Analysts on the call sought clarification on cost estimates and timeline risks, with Rio2 acknowledging potential variability in capital expenditures due to inflationary pressures and supply chain challenges. The miner stated that it is actively monitoring these factors to mitigate any adverse impacts on the project’s economics.
Rio2’s Fenix Gold project is positioned as one of Chile’s largest undeveloped gold deposits, with an estimated resource base of approximately 1.2 million ounces of gold. The company has previously indicated that the project could extend the mine life to over a decade at planned production rates.
