Raymond James initiated coverage of River City Bank on Tuesday with an outperform rating and a $56 price target, citing the California-based lender’s differentiated commercial banking model and conservative underwriting standards.
The bank’s shares, which closed at $50.87 on Monday, are trading near their 52-week high of $50.98. Raymond James’ target implies a potential upside of about 10% from current levels. River City Bank went public in May, raising $121.5 million in an IPO that was downsized from an initial plan to sell 2.75 million shares at between $48 and $51 per share. The offering ultimately priced 2.7 million shares at $45 each.
Analysts highlighted the bank’s outsized loan and net interest income growth, driven by recent geographic expansion and hiring initiatives. Despite conservative underwriting, River City Bank has delivered a 39% gain over the past year, supported by strong borrower quality and pristine credit performance. The bank’s return on common equity stood at 14%, while its price-to-earnings ratio was 8.7, reflecting a valuation below industry averages.
Raymond James projects annual tangible book value growth of approximately 10%, with return on average assets expected to reach roughly 1.15% by 2027. Return on average tangible common equity is forecast to climb to about 11.5% over the same period. The firm noted that River City Bank’s excess capital generation could support increased capital returns, though such initiatives are not currently reflected in its financial model.
InvestingPro assigned River City Bank a "great" financial health rating, though the stock appears slightly overvalued relative to its fair value estimate.
