Poland’s benchmark WIG30 index declined 1.24% at the close of trade on Thursday, as declines in basic materials, energy and banking offset gains in a handful of consumer and insurance names.
Declining issues outnumbered advancers by 274 to 248 on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, with 123 stocks unchanged.
Among the top performers in the WIG30, Rainbow Tours SA led with a 3.10% gain to close at 153.00 zloty, while PZU SA added 0.59% to 72.20 zloty. Polski Koncern Naftowy ORLEN SA rose 0.37% to 156.00 zloty, reaching an all-time high.
The sharpest declines were seen in KGHM Polska Miedz SA, which fell 4.47% to 332.45 zloty, Grupa KĘTY SA down 3.81% to 1,213.00 zloty, and Tauron Polska Energia SA down 3.79% to 8.42 zloty.
Commodities moved higher, with October West Texas Intermediate crude rising 2.63% to $86.61 per barrel and October Brent crude up 2.29% to $93.72 per barrel. December gold futures gained 0.77% to $4,580.36 per troy ounce.
The Polish zloty strengthened 0.13% against the euro to 4.32, while the dollar-pair was little changed at 3.70. The U.S. Dollar Index futures held steady at 98.74.
