London equities ended modestly higher on Thursday, with the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gaining 0.02% at the close.
Advancers outpaced decliners by 788 to 920, with 552 stocks unchanged. Gains were led by the mining, industrial engineering and tobacco sectors, while energy and tobacco names also provided support.
Among the top performers, Weir Group PLC surged 4.09%, or 108 points, to 2,750. Fresnillo PLC added 2.69%, or 83 points, to 3,168. BP PLC rose 2.39%, or 12.90 points, to 552.20.
The worst performers included JD Sports Fashion PLC, which slumped 14.32%, or 13.38 points, to 80.08. Legal & General Group PLC fell 3.93%, or 11.70 points, to 286.30, while Vistry Group PLC declined 3.48%, or 9.60 points, to 266.40.
Commodities also moved higher, with gold futures for December delivery up 0.67% to $4,575.64 per troy ounce. Crude oil for October delivery rose 2.71% to $86.68 per barrel, while the Brent oil contract for October gained 2.31% to $93.74 per barrel.
The British pound held steady against the dollar, with GBP/USD flat at 1.36, while EUR/GBP was unchanged at 0.86. The US Dollar Index futures edged up 0.04% to 98.77.
