Flash floods in Nepal’s Galchhi region have left at least 384 travelers missing and nine confirmed dead, authorities reported on Wednesday. The disaster, triggered by torrential rains in the Himalayan nation, has displaced 291 foreign nationals, including 105 Indian citizens.
The floods struck the border region with Tibet, submerging key transit routes and cutting off access to affected areas. Rescue operations are underway as officials warn of worsening conditions due to continued rainfall. The Nepal Tourism Board has issued advisories for travelers, urging caution in flood-prone zones.
The incident follows weeks of heavy monsoon activity across South Asia, with Nepal’s mountainous terrain exacerbating flood risks. Authorities have not yet provided a breakdown of the remaining missing travelers by nationality beyond the Indian count.
