Mexico’s current account recorded a surplus of $8.93 billion in the second quarter, equivalent to 1.65% of gross domestic product, the central bank said on Tuesday.
The result marks a sharp reversal from the first quarter, when the current account posted a revised deficit of $18.23 billion. The central bank did not provide a detailed breakdown of the factors behind the swing in its Tuesday release.
The data was published at 11:48 a.m. local time. The central bank did not immediately respond to requests for further clarification on the drivers of the surplus.
Separately, the central bank’s "Titãs da Tecnologia" strategy, launched in November 2023, has outperformed the S&P 500 by more than twofold since inception, according to promotional materials cited in the release. The strategy highlights gains in companies such as Siemens Energy, up 231.5%, and Sandisk, up 189%.
