McEwen Inc. announced the retirement of Chief Operating Officer William Shaver and the promotion of three executives to senior leadership positions, effective immediately.
Shaver, who spent more than 55 years in the mining sector including four at McEwen, will leave his operational role but remain on the board of McEwen Copper, where the parent company holds a 46.3% stake. In recognition of his contributions, McEwen plans to name a new mine ramp at its Stock Mine in Timmins the William Shaver Ramp.
Channa Kumarage has been appointed Vice President of Operations, overseeing the company’s active mines. Previously Director of Technical Services, Kumarage played a key role in bringing the Froome mine into production at the Fox Complex in Timmins. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mineral Engineering from the University of Toronto and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario.
Kevin Bromfield assumes the role of Vice President of Development Projects, leading engineering and construction across multiple sites. His responsibilities include the Grey Fox project at the Fox Complex in Timmins, the Tartan Mine Project in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and Lookout Mountain/Windfall at the Gold Bar Mine Complex in Nevada. Bromfield holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from Queen’s University and an Executive MBA from the Ivey School of Business.
Zahir Jina joins the executive team as Vice President of Permitting, Government Relations, and Sustainability, bringing over 15 years of environmental management experience. His prior roles include positions at SLR Consulting, Wyloo, Treasury Metals, Teck Coal and Anglo American.
Vice Chairman Ian Ball will collaborate closely with the newly promoted executives as McEwen advances its operational, construction and permitting initiatives to meet its production target of 250,000 to 300,000 gold equivalent ounces annually by 2030.
