France’s 2026 soft wheat harvest is showing protein levels above historical averages, according to the latest survey by FranceAgriMer and crop institute Arvalis. The data, released Wednesday, indicate that 89% of tested samples contained 11% protein or higher, down slightly from 90% the prior week but well above the five-year average of 80%.
At the 11.5% protein threshold commonly used by buyers, 61% of the crop met the standard, an increase from 59% in initial results and above the five-year average of 51%. Test weight measurements also reflect strong quality, with 96% of the crop at or above the market benchmark of 76 kilograms per hectolitre, unchanged from the previous week and exceeding the five-year average of 61%.
Milling quality remains robust, with 100% of samples meeting the industry requirement for Hagberg falling numbers at 250 seconds or above, consistent with last week’s results and surpassing the five-year average of 85%. The survey, conducted jointly by FranceAgriMer and Arvalis, covers 72% of planned samples. Updated findings are expected in the coming weeks.
