JW Pharmaceutical gout drug meets primary endpoint in Phase 3 trial

JW Pharmaceutical announced on Friday that its experimental gout drug, JW-3002, met the primary endpoint in a Phase 3 clinical trial, demonstrating superiority over the standard therapy colchicine.

The late-stage study evaluated the efficacy and safety of JW-3002 in patients with acute gouty arthritis, comparing it against colchicine, the widely used first-line treatment. According to the company, the trial achieved its primary goal of reducing pain intensity within 72 hours, with statistically significant results favoring JW-3002.

JW Pharmaceutical stated that detailed trial data will be presented at an upcoming medical conference and submitted to regulatory authorities for review. The company did not disclose further specifics about the trial’s secondary endpoints or adverse event rates.

Shares of JW Pharmaceutical rose modestly in after-hours trading following the announcement, reflecting investor optimism about the drug’s potential market prospects. Analysts noted that a successful regulatory approval could position JW-3002 as a competitive alternative in the gout treatment market, currently dominated by generic colchicine.
