Italy’s benchmark equity gauge ended lower on Thursday, with the Investing.com Italy 40 falling 1.16% at the close in Milan.
Declines in financials, utilities and oil and gas shares outweighed gains in technology and automotive stocks. Advancing issues narrowly trailed decliners 320 to 356, while 49 stocks were unchanged.
Among top performers, STMicroelectronics rose 2.92% to 43.58, Stellantis added 2.58% to 4.58 and DiaSorin advanced 1.77% to 77.00. The gains followed broader weakness in the index.
Leading decliners included Hera, which fell 3.32% to 3.79, UniCredit, which dropped 3.17% to 83.42, and Banco Bpm, which slipped 2.12% to 15.93.
Oil benchmarks edged higher, with Brent crude for November delivery up 0.66% to $87.51 a barrel and U.S. crude for October delivery rising 0.55% to $82.68. Gold futures for December delivery gained 0.17% to $4,661.20 an ounce. The euro held steady against the dollar at 1.17, while the U.S. Dollar Index slipped 0.02% to 99.07.
