Indonesia’s IDX Composite dips 0.67% as financials, agriculture weigh

Indonesian equities slipped at the close of trade on Wednesday, with the IDX Composite Index falling 0.67% as losses in financials, agriculture and basic industries offset gains elsewhere.

The benchmark gauge ended at 7,801.27, down 53.12 points, after 380 stocks declined, 266 advanced and 183 were unchanged. Regional peers were mixed, with the Philippines’ PSEi up 0.3% and Thailand’s SET down 0.4%.

Financial shares, which account for about a fifth of the index by weight, led declines after the central bank’s latest guidance suggested a prolonged pause in monetary easing. Agriculture stocks also retreated on weaker palm oil prices, while basic materials slipped alongside softer coal and metals prices.

Commodities were broadly firmer outside gold. October Brent crude rose 0.20% to $91.20 a barrel, while October WTI gained 0.26% to $84.28. December gold futures eased 0.15% to $4,413.75 an ounce.

The U.S. dollar index fell 0.20% to 99.36, while the USD/IDR pair dipped 0.13% to 17,822.90.
