Indian equities retreated on Thursday, with the Nifty 50 index falling 0.17% to a one-month low and the BSE Sensex 30 dropping 0.55%.
Declines were broad-based, led by IT and non-durable consumer goods sectors. The India VIX, a gauge of market volatility, eased 2.20% to 11.34, reflecting reduced near-term risk sentiment.
On the National Stock Exchange, 1,600 stocks advanced while 997 declined, with 48 unchanged. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2,368 stocks rose against 1,678 falls, with 179 unchanged.
Among the Nifty 50 components, IndusInd Bank led gains with a 2.17% rise to 999.20, followed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone at 1,699.00 (+1.57%) and Axis Bank at 1,270.50 (+1.32%). The largest declines were seen in Tech Mahindra at 1,596.20 (-1.65%), Cipla at 1,389.90 (-1.62%) and HCL Technologies at 1,313.30 (-1.37%).
In the BSE Sensex 30, IndusInd Bank advanced 2.45% to 1,001.00, while Axis Bank and Adani Ports also posted gains. Losses were led by Titan Company at 4,960.00 (-2.17%), ITC at 262.15 (-1.63%) and Mahindra & Mahindra at 3,140.00 (-1.62%).
Commodities and currencies moved in mixed directions. December gold futures rose 1.21% to $4,467.84 per troy ounce, while October West Texas Intermediate crude gained 1.80% to $92.65 per barrel. November Brent crude advanced 1.56% to $97.12 per barrel. The USD/INR pair fell 0.49% to 94.51, and EUR/INR declined 0.41% to 109.61. The US Dollar Index futures increased 0.34% to 99.21.
