Swiss building materials group Holcim agreed to acquire German manufacturer Fermacell from James Hardie Industries for €840 million, the companies said late Thursday.
Fermacell specializes in wall, floor and fire-protection solutions, with a focus on high-performance gypsum-fiber and cement-bonded panels. The acquisition bolsters Holcim’s European presence in interior construction and fire-rated building systems, aligning with its strategy to expand beyond core cement and aggregates.
The deal follows Holcim’s recent push into specialty building products, including acoustic and insulation systems, as demand for sustainable construction materials rises across the continent. Fermacell operates production sites in Germany and serves markets across the European Union, reinforcing Holcim’s geographic footprint in the region.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed beyond the purchase price. The acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
