GCT Semiconductor Holding Inc. said it has entered a licensing agreement to develop unmanned aerial vehicle control and communication technologies, marking a push into defense and logistics applications.
The San Jose-based company will integrate its GDM7243i connectivity solution and IoT module into UAV systems under the partnership, according to a statement. GCT is expanding its dual-use technology portfolio into mission-critical sectors, following prior collaboration with the same partner in utility deployments such as smart metering and grid modernization.
The new agreement extends cooperation into logistics, security, and defense-related operations, though neither party disclosed the partner’s identity or financial terms. GCT designs and supplies 5G and 4G LTE semiconductor solutions for wireless connectivity, serving customer premises equipment, mobile hotspots, routers, and machine-to-machine applications.
John Schlaefer, CEO of GCT, said the partnership leverages the companies’ combined expertise in advanced connectivity and industrial-grade wireless systems to meet the demands of next-generation unmanned platforms.
