Fertilizer and agricultural equities are leading a sector rebound as sentiment shifts from pessimism to cautious optimism, according to Wolfe Research’s latest channel checks published on August 25, 2026. The firm noted a marked improvement across five countries, driven by a recovery in commodity prices from mid-year lows that has prompted distributors to signal potential restocking activity.
CF Industries (CF) has been the standout performer, with shares up 62.7% year-to-date to $126.09, supported by a market capitalization of $19.1 billion and a trailing P/E ratio of 9.1x. The company’s gross margins expanded to 38.5% in FY2025 from 34.6% in FY2024, while revenue reached $7.08 billion, rebounding from a $5.94 billion trough. Analysts at Wolfe Research estimate fair value upside of 9.8%, with a dividend yield of 1.9%. Nutrien (NTR) has also gained 19.2% YTD to $73.73, trading at a P/E of 14.8x and offering a 3.0% dividend yield, though fair value upside is pegged at just 4.2%.
Other agribusiness names have posted mixed performance. Deere (DE) is up 36.3% YTD to $635.04, though its P/E of 35.2x and an estimated 31.6% downside to fair value temper enthusiasm. Corteva (CTVA) has risen 24.1% YTD to $83.17 but remains richly valued at 51.1x earnings, with an 8.6% downside to fair value. ADM (ADM) has advanced 39.1% YTD to $79.96, supported by a 21.6x P/E and 5.9% upside, though revenue contracted 0.8% in the period. Yara International (YAR) maintains a Buy rating from Kepler Cheuvreux with a fair value estimate of kr588.48, implying 30.1% upside.
The Invesco DB Agriculture Fund (DBA) has gained 12.2% year-to-date, reflecting broader sector strength. Distributors are monitoring New Orleans DAP prices, which have fallen below $600 per short ton—a level that could trigger the largest fertilizer bank replenishment since February 2025. Seed companies are also expected to announce modest 1-2% increases in corn prices, further supporting the agricultural supply chain.
Macroeconomic headwinds persist, with U.S. GDP growth decelerating to 1.5% in the latest reading, underscoring the fragile balance between sector recovery and broader economic conditions.
