Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, son of the late EssilorLuxottica founder, will step down from his roles as chairman of the Ray-Ban brand and chief strategy officer at the Franco-Italian eyewear group effective August 31, the company confirmed on Monday.
Del Vecchio, 31, also holds a 12.5% stake in Delfin, the Del Vecchio family holding company that serves as EssilorLuxottica’s largest shareholder with a 32.4% stake in the group. His resignation letter, cited by Italian daily MF-Milano Finanza, criticized the company’s management style as "distant" and "impersonal."
The decision follows reported tensions with Delfin’s board, including a failed attempt by Del Vecchio to acquire the stakes of two siblings in the family holding company. His half-brother, Rocco Basilico, resigned from EssilorLuxottica last year. Delfin’s leadership, including CEO Francesco Milleri, has not publicly addressed the internal disputes.
An EssilorLuxottica spokesperson said the company "expresses gratitude for his contribution to the group’s growth and the realization of the strategic vision championed by his father." The group did not specify Del Vecchio’s future plans.
