CenterPoint Energy has activated its Emergency Operations Center as Tropical Storm Invest 97L approaches the Greater Houston region, with impacts expected to begin Tuesday.
The weather system is forecast to bring several inches of heavy rainfall, localized flooding and gusty winds to Southeast Texas through Wednesday. The utility serves more than 7 million metered customers across Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio and Texas, with assets valued at approximately $48.3 billion as of June 30, 2026.
Preparations include deploying frontline personnel for potential restoration efforts, inspecting power lines and electric substations in the Houston area, and clearing hazardous vegetation from power infrastructure. The company’s meteorology team is monitoring forecast updates continuously and coordinating with local officials and emergency management partners.
Customers are advised to enroll in the Power Alert Service for real-time outage notifications, estimated restoration times and updates via phone, text or email. The cloud-based Outage Tracker is also available in English and Spanish to provide localized outage and restoration information by county, city and zip code.
Jason Fabre, Vice President of Special Response & Distribution Operations and Incident Commander, stated that the company has activated preparedness plans and crews stand ready to respond to service impacts.
