Brazil’s coffee export body Cecafé raised its preliminary August shipment figure by 1.23 million 60-kg bags to 2.94 million after an internal system update failed to process certificates from the Santos port.
The initial August 24 tally stood at 1.71 million bags before Cecafé suspended data dissemination on August 26 for a full review. The correction followed a routine system update intended to track export certificates, Cecafé technical director Eduardo Heron said.
Heron noted the original figures were atypically low for the time of year, prompting the verification. The revision coincided with a nearly 4% drop in ICE Arabica coffee futures on the day Cecafé published the corrected data, though prices partially recovered with a 1% gain on August 28.
Brazil, the world’s largest coffee exporter, typically sees strong August shipments as the harvest nears completion and producers finalize foreign sales. A U.S.-based coffee broker said the revision may have influenced market sentiment during the week.
Cecafé did not disclose whether additional adjustments are expected as the full dataset is finalized.
