Two major corporate holders of bitcoin are expanding their reserves, signaling confidence in the digital asset’s long-term value despite recent price volatility.
Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (Strategy) and Metaplanet, both listed entities with significant bitcoin allocations, disclosed additional purchases on Sunday. Strategy, which holds approximately 62,000 bitcoin valued at roughly $4.1 billion at current prices, increased its holdings by 1,200 BTC. Metaplanet, a Japanese technology firm, added 500 BTC to its portfolio, bringing its total to 3,500 BTC, according to separate filings.
The firms emphasized a commitment to bitcoin’s mathematical scarcity and decentralized properties rather than speculative price movements. "We remain focused on the protocol’s inherent value, not quarterly price action," a Strategy spokesperson said. Metaplanet echoed this sentiment, stating that its strategy is based on "long-term structural demand" for bitcoin as a hedge against fiat currency debasement.
Bitcoin’s price has experienced sharp fluctuations in recent weeks, swinging between $60,000 and $68,000 amid shifting macroeconomic conditions and regulatory developments. Despite the volatility, both companies reiterated their accumulation plans, framing their positions as strategic rather than tactical.
Analysts note that the purchases underscore a broader trend among corporate treasuries to diversify reserves into bitcoin, particularly in regions with weaker currencies or high inflation. "These moves reflect a belief in bitcoin’s role as a long-term store of value," said a crypto market analyst at a major investment bank.
The additions bring Strategy’s total holdings to 63,200 BTC and Metaplanet’s to 4,000 BTC, consolidating their positions among the largest corporate holders globally.
