Apple unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, at its annual product event Wednesday, launching the device at $1,999 for a 256GB model with storage configurations extending up to 2TB.
The passport-style foldable features a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen, powered by the company's A20 Pro chip. Apple stated the processor delivers up to 35% better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro. The device includes dual 48-megapixel main and ultra-wide cameras and uses a dual-battery architecture. Apple also highlighted iOS 27's Split View multitasking feature as part of the Duo experience.
"iPhone Duo is the most transformational change to iPhone since the original," said CEO John Ternus at the September 9 event. Ternus succeeded Tim Cook as Apple's chief executive earlier in the month, on September 1.
Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo begin October 16, with availability across more than 70 countries and regions starting October 23.
Apple also refreshed its iPhone 18 Pro lineup, with the iPhone 18 Pro starting at $1,199 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at $1,299. Orders for those models begin September 12, with shipping commencing September 18. No new iPhone 18 was introduced.
In wearables and audio, the AirPods 5 were announced starting at $129. The Apple Watch Series 12 retains its $399 starting price, and the Apple Watch Ultra 4 holds at $799.
Shares of Apple fell as much as 2% during the presentation before recovering to finish more than 0.5% higher after the event concluded.
Amit Daryanani of Evercore ISI wrote that the updated iPhone 18 Pro lineup should support continued momentum and drive incremental upgrades, particularly among users with devices older than three years.
