Aecon Group Inc. said on Thursday it added C$714 million ($531 million) to its backlog through a transportation project in Ontario, with $649 million earmarked for the Construction segment in the third quarter of 2026. The remaining $65 million was recognized in the second quarter of the same year.
The contract, awarded to the ONxpress Civils Contractor General Partnership—a 50/50 joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada—covers the GO Expansion program managed by Metrolinx. Work has already commenced at the Durham College Oshawa GO station, alongside civil works, track improvements, and upgrades along the Lakeshore East line under a target-price model.
Aecon’s involvement in Ontario’s transit expansion extends beyond the current project. The company previously delivered the Waterloo LRT, Finch West LRT, and Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Its broader portfolio includes active engagements such as the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension Elevated Guideway, Scarborough subway extension, Yonge North Subway Extension advanced tunnel project, the Surrey Langley SkyTrain Stations project in British Columbia, and multiple Réseau express métropolitain projects in Quebec.
