AECOM announced on Monday that it has been appointed design partner for the Warkworth‑to‑Te Hana upgrade of State Highway 1 in New Zealand.
The project forms the first segment of the 100‑kilometre Northland Corridor Program, which will connect Auckland to Whangārei. Lead contractor ACCIONA and investment partner Aberdeen Investments have created the Northway Consortium to deliver the work.
AECOM’s scope includes a new system interchange, re‑engineered curves, improved sight distances and modified gradients to enhance safety and resilience to flooding, landslides and extreme weather. The design also incorporates on‑site material reuse to reduce waste, haulage and embodied carbon.
The firm mobilised transportation, engineering and design specialists from New Zealand, Australia and its global operations. AECOM reported revenue of $16.1 billion for fiscal year 2025.
The contract expands AECOM’s infrastructure services portfolio, which spans water, environment, energy, transportation and building sectors.
