Die SMI bleibt vor einem höheren Start leicht positiv, Meta erreicht ein Allzeithoch

The Swiss Market Index (SMI) opened slightly up 0,4 percent, driven by positive developments from the US markets. Stock traders remained focused on interest rate developments and oil prices, while the economic forecast by the KOF on Friday added to the focus. In US stock trading after market close, MGM Resorts’ stock fell by 8,6 percent after the takeover offer from Barry Diller was withdrawn. In contrast, the Vaneck Space ETF rose by 4,5 percent, while the S&P 500 showed little movement and sector indices remained within a tight range. Asian markets such as the Nikkei 225 advanced by 1,2 percent, while trade volume remained low due to holidays. Interest rates on Japanese government bonds reached historic highs since 1996, indicating rising borrowing costs and inflation concerns. In Japan, the weakness of the yen was discussed in political talks between US President Trump and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, with the dollar losing slightly against the yen and other currencies – yet benefiting from expectations of further Fed rate hikes on a weekly basis. Oil prices stabilized slightly following political developments, with Brent Crude falling by 0,7 percent and WTI by 1,6 percent. US stock markets remained directionless on Thursday and ended with minimal losses. Meta reached its highest level in over a year, up 4,5 percent to 777,59 dollars, approaching the 2025 record high. The company’s value rose by 35 percent to around 2 trillion dollars in September. Analysts praised the launch of the AI assistant Muse and partnerships with companies such as Walmart and Shopify. Oracle and Dropbox, on the other hand, recorded losses of 3,5 and 4,6 percent, respectively, with Oracle struggling with structural obstacles for a new data center and Dropbox being recommended for sale by Citigroup. MGM Resorts’ shares fell by 11 percent after the media conglomerate People withdrew its takeover bid.
